Olympic Games 1972 - "Ruderregatta" / "Rowing Regatta" (Munich, Germany)

North of Munich lies the competitive rowing centre, the "Rowing Regatta“. I grew up very close by and this was often a destination for me and my family on a bike ride, but it was only in recent years that I noticed how interesting the area was. Today, people train regularly on the course and the facilities around the water are also used for all kinds of sports. The grandstand area, however, is falling into disrepair and in many corners it looks as if the charm of the 70s has been frozen like in a time capsule: the chairs in bright orange, the wet rooms in blue, the wooden structure decrepit and supported. The bright late summer sun only made all the colours appear even stronger.

Voelklingen Ironworks - Völklinger Hütte (Völklingen, Germany)

Mural, Entrance Area, Voelklingen Ironworks
Between Fritz Lang's "Metropolis," a "lost place," and a location brimming with art, surprises, and encounters: the Völklingen Ironworks, a steelworks that operated until 1986, is now a place that offers something new around every corner. A special exhibition on the history of X-rays, a unique atmosphere, the smell of lubricating oil. Some machines look as if they could be switched on immediately, others rust charmingly away. Interspersed throughout are artworks from the permanent collection. I'm still completely fascinated and could have spent days exploring its nooks and crannies. Definitely I will return.
